30 Jan What Is The VRX Motorsports Experience?
Imagine being able to ride along with your favourite driver during the Daytona 500, Montreal Grand Prix, or Paris-Dakar rally. With the rollout of VRX Motorsports’ live-streaming technology, that desire will soon become a reality.
VRX Motorsports Experience & Jeffrey Earnhardt
As part of a partnership with Jeffrey Earnhardt (nephew of 15-time Most Popular Driver award winner Dale Jr.) and VRX (BC-based tech company), the VRX Motorsports Experience is set to debut at the Daytona 500 and change motorsports forever – read VRX Simulators Debuts eSports at Daytona 500.
With a full suite of experiences, VRX Motorsports is all about providing entirely new ways for fans to experience the energy and excitement of motorsports. By leveraging technology and state-of-the-art hardware, fans can engage with their passion and create entirely personalized experiences at each race.
Live Streaming in VR
With the explosion of virtual reality and the increasing trend of live streaming sporting events in VR, the barriers to entry for technology providers to create low-latency broadcasts are becoming increasingly low.
Originally designed to transmit in-car data to the pit crew during a race, VRX Motorsports has adapted the technology to stream visuals, audio, and telemetry data from the car to a VR motion chair – in real time! Fans participating in the experience will get to virtually “ride along” with their favorite driver during the event and see, hear, and feel the action as if they were sitting in the car.
By using accelerometers, a series of microphones, and an 8K 360 VR camera installed in the car, signals are sent via a 5G LTE closed-cell network directly to the bank of seating designed to simulate these experiences.
Fans who choose to engage in motorsports this way will get to experience a lifelike version of the adrenaline and excitement felt in the car on race day.
The technology has been scheduled for testing at the Daytona 500 with Jeffrey Earnhardt and VRX aims to pilot the first live stream experience at NASCAR’s race three in Las Vegas on March 3, 2018.
As part of the VRX Motorsports Experience and goal of re-engaging NASCAR fans, VRX Motorsports will also be rolling out a series of interactive experiences throughout the NASCAR season.
These experiences include:
– An 8-simulator RaceRoom to host head to head races and mini “Daytona 500” tournaments
– A series of virtual reality motion chairs showing a tour of NASA’s SLS rocket and Journey to Mars experience
– A full motion bobsled experience that will let fans experience the thrill of piloting a Canadian Olympic bobsled down the Whistler bobsled track with full motion and in VR
– A motion enabled floor that will allow fans to participate in a variety of standing VR experiences with an added tactile feedback aspect that can be felt from the ground up
– A 20-seat motion theatre that will offer virtual “ride alongs” with guest drivers piloting a racing simulator
The Daytona 500
These experiences are set to make their debut at the Daytona 500 and continue to roll out throughout the NASCAR season. The goal is to eventually expand into other series of motorsports and eventually launch a full eSports league, powered by VRX and a number of other of the world’s biggest corporate partners.
